My bike riders so far this week are a real inspiration for others to hop on an electric bike:
Maureen and Ross – From Rhos to Rhyl…..
On Monday, I met up with Maureen and Ross who had won tickets for an half-day electric bike adventure in a raffle. Having not ridden bikes in quite a while they opted for a relaxed, flat ride along the coastal path from Rhos-on-sea towards Colwyn Bay. I adjusted the bikes to size, fitted their helmets, showed them how to use the electric power assist on the bikes and left them to it.
I returned 4 hours later to two beaming faces who summarised the experience as “amazing” and “brilliant!” 🙂
I heard all about their wonderful afternoon pottering along the coast as far as Rhyl (12 miles away) and stopping for lunch at Tides Cafe along the way.
Maureen was brimming with nostalgia, how the ride had brought back childhood cycling memories of “the wind in your hair”. She was thrilled to bits with the prize she had won!
Ross had thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon too although he did admit that he was a bit miffed as he couldn’t understand why Maureen was going faster than he was. It transpired that unbeknown to Ross, Maureen was using a higher power level on her bike and was rather enjoying speeding ahead of Ross 🙂 Such fun! I think they’ll be back for another adventure 😉
They then totally blew me away and gave me a plant as a ‘Thankyou’ gift 🙂 How lovely!
Eric – From Deganwy to Penmaenmawr…..
When I met Eric at The Quay in Deganwy this morning he told me he’d not ridden a bike in a few years (I was later to discover that this was an understatement).
Assessing my cycling ability, Eric asked if I was a “lycra girl racing time trials”. I assured him that I wasn’t a ‘girl racer’ and for me cycling is a way to look after my health.
After a short ride around the car park (with the battery switched off) Eric was confident enough to turn on the electric and he headed off on the coastal path towards Penmaenmawr.
I returned a few hours later to an enviable tale of multiple refreshments! Eric had ventured to Penmaenmawr for coffee and cake, then visited the RSPB reserve at Conwy and then pottered along the promenade in Deganwy for an ice-cream – this is what cycling is all about! 🙂
Eric handed me back his helmet and bike-lock key, told me he’d really enjoyed his bike ride and he’s keen to hire a bike again. He then added that he’d not ridden a bike since 1978!!!! That’s 37 years ago!!! 🙂
Now that’s what this bike hire venture is all about! #MilesOfElectricSmiles 🙂
